Measures in place to ensure safety of table eggs from Europe

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has said that it has taken all precautionary measures to ensure the safety of table eggs imported from European countries to the Sultanate, following the detection of Fipronil insecticide found in the farms of The Netherlands.


* The ministry said it has stopped the issuance of any new licenses for the import of table eggs currently from European countries.


* It has directed specialists from the veterinarians in veterinary quarantine offices at all border crossings to intensify the examination procedures by withdrawing samples from all the eggs of the table imported from the European countries, even if they had permits and reached the ports of the sultanate before the outbreak of the scandal. These eggs will be subject to necessary laboratory tests to ensure they are free of any pathogens.


* It is also coordinating with the regulatory authorities in with the Sultanate to monitor the Omani markets to ensure these table eggs are subject to laboratory tests.


The Ministry affirmed its continued keenness to follow up on any developments in this regard and take the necessary measures to ensure the safety and health of all consignments received in the Sultanate
