MUSCAT: Students of Modern College of Business and Science (MCBS), pursuing Franklin University’s MBA programme at the MCBS campus in Muscat, have earned the Global Top 100 ranking at the recent GLO-BUS business simulation competition.

Their overall game score tied for the 8th best overall game-to-date score performance of the week, their earnings per share were the 2nd best performance and their stock price was the best performance of the week worldwide.

GLO-BUS is a PC-based exercise, modelled to reflect the real-world character of the globally competitive market for AC cameras and UAV drones.

The operations of the companies assigned groups of students, run only by students in the capstone class, are patterned after those of actual enterprises that design, assemble, and market AC cameras and UAV drones. Students operate companies that have been made ‘as realistic as possible’ in order to provide them with a close-to-real-life managerial experience.

A student who undertook the exercise in October 2017 said, “I was part of a team, consisting of co-managers operating our hypothetical digital camera company. The GLO-BUS simulation is an exercise that is being utilized by Masters students across the globe to learn more about the importance of decision making and strategic management. It also teaches the participating groups about the importance of cooperation and teamwork to achieve the established goals which are crucial in any business environment.

Our group competed against other groups in our cohort but also with other groups worldwide. Competing companies have a wide array of strategies to choose from to meet their target, such as cost leadership, differentiation, best-cost, focused low-cost, focused differentiation, global strategy (mostly uniform worldwide) or “multi-regional” (staking out a market position tailored to competitive conditions in a particular geographic region). In the simulation, all groups start on the same financial footing and were required to make the necessary changes in the company. The simulation is rich regarding market setting, the authenticity with which it parallels the real-world digital camera market, and its ability to integrate material from prior core courses in business. The experience of competing and working within a group to raise the Earnings Per Share and Return on Equity of the hypothetical camera company is a rewarding experience; it assisted me in understanding the effects of each decision made over time.”

These MCBS MBA students join the ranks of previous Franklin University global MBA achievers who have earned top GLO-BUS 100 rankings. Modern College of Business & Science proved one more time that it’s the Sultanate’s most innovative and pioneering institution.
