BRUSSELS: British Prime Minister Theresa May vows to deliver on Brexit, following meetings in Brussels with top EU officials, despite failing to win assurances on key changes she is seeking to the withdrawal deal.

“My work is to deliver Brexit, to deliver it on time and I am going to be negotiating hard in the coming days to do just that,” May said after talks with European Council President Donald Tusk, wrapping up a series of meetings in Brussels.

Following the talks, however, Tusk tweets that there is “still no breakthrough in sight.” May also criticised comments by Tusk on Wednesday on the “special place in hell” reserved for those who proposed Brexit without a plan. That language “was not helpful and caused widespread dismay in the UK,” she said.

Meanwhile, European Parliament President Antonio Tajani warned of the catastrophic consequences of a no-deal Brexit following talks in Brussels with May.

The parliament’s Brexit negotiator Guy Verhofstadt, who also attended the talks, welcomed the letter from British opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn offering support for May’s Brexit deal if she opts for a future customs union aligning Britain with the EU.
