Muscat, Feb 12 - The Majlis Ash’shura on Monday discussed the draft Commercial Companies Law with 315 clauses covering six chapters. It discussed the general and limited partnerships, joint ventures, joint stock companies and limited liability companies as well as the general provisions. A number of topics were discussed, including Commercial Companies Law referred by the State Council and the draft law on patients’ rights at the ninth ordinary session of the third annual sitting (2017-18) of Majlis Ash’shura. It was held under the chairmanship of Shaikh Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman. The session ended without concluding a discussion on Commercial Companies Law. Discussions will continue today.

Some members felt the draft law on patients’ rights and safety should get priority as it was referred by Majlis Ash’shura internal panel and not the Commercial Companies Law, which was referred by the State Council. They also raised an issue over the absence of media coverage, especially social media. In his reply, Ali al Mahrouqi, Secretary-General of Majlis Ash’shura, the local media had been invited to cover the meeting, but the council could not force the media to cover its meetings. Another issue that was raised was the increase in fees for government services, which affected a large number of people.

The topic was referred to the Services and Social Committee. The Economic and Financial Committee held several regular meetings and hosted the respective parties concerned with the draft law and listened to their views. The committee also held joint meetings with the Legislative and Legal Committee of Majlis Ash’shura.
