“Green Light”, first song from Lorde’s long-awaited and mysterious video clips have finally arrived. It took months and months of teasing for this song from her second album to arrive.

“it’s the first chapter of a story I’m gonna tell you, the story of the last 2 wild, fluorescent years of my life. this is where we begin,” Lorde tweeted about the track.

Lorde co-produced Green Light with up-and-comer Frank Dukes and Bleachers’ Jack Antonoff, who helped her pal Taylor Swift mine ‘80s synth pop on the Grammy-winning 1989.

While Antonoff’s anthemic stamp can be heard all over the piano-driven track, it’s still unlike anything she — or frankly, any pop star in recent memory — has put out before, with frequent tempo changes, a wailing hook and the same sharp, heartfelt lyrics that first endeared us to the Kiwi singer on her breakout single Royals.

It’s an earworm that manages to be both familiar and forward-thinking, making us all the more excited for how the rest of the story will unfold when Melodrama arrives this summer.

“I am so proud of this song,” Lorde tweeted.

“It’s very different, and kinda unexpected. It’s complex and funny and sad and joyous and it’ll make you DANCE.” The “Green Light” video was directed by Grant Singer, who recently directed the video for Lorde pal Taylor Swift’s “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever.”

Lorde also announced that her new album would be titled Melodrama and shared the album cover on Instagram. “It’s the first chapter of a story I’m gonna tell you, the story of the last two wild, fluorescent years of my life,” she wrote. “This is where we begin.”
