MUSCAT: The Sultanate and the world will witness falling of Geminid meteor showers that will reach peak on Friday night till Saturday dawn December 14 and 15.

Astronomy observer Ibrahim bin Mohammed al Mahrouqi, member of the Omani Astronomical Society, said the Geminid meteor showers are among if not the best meteors throughout the year.

The Geminid meteor showers may be seen from all parts of the world.

Al Mahrouqi said Geminid meteor shower is produced by debris left behind by an asteroid known as 3200 Phaethon, which was discovered in 1982. The shower runs annually from December 7-17 causing multicoloured meteors. — ONA
