Long-term vision for aviation industry discussed

MUSCAT:  The Executive Council of the Arab Civil Aviation Commission (ACAC) on Wednesday held its 55th meeting at the HQs of the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA). The meeting discussed the long-term vision to liberate air transport and upgrade the Commission’s strategy for air navigation through satellites. It also discussed building a regional system to monitor air safety, the regional cooperation in air accident investigations, as well as the e-threats and their effect on the aviation security.


Dr Mohammed bin Nasser al Zaabi, CEO of PACA who chaired the meeting, delivered a speech during which he pointed out that the meeting reflects the keenness of the Arab countries to keep pace with developments in Arab civil aviation field.


He pointed out that with the constant growth of civil aviation industry, it is imperative for the ACAC to enhance cooperation and coordination among member countries in Arab civil aviation field especially in air transport, air navigation, aviation security and environment.”


The ACAC should also do its best to keep pace with the major global changes faced by civil aviation sector and should be supported by member countries,” he added.


“The meeting is expected to come up with decisions that serve the Arab civil aviation sector and help it keeping pace with the developments witnessed by the aviation industry and meeting the requirements of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO),” he further said.


In a statement to reporters, he pointed out the Sultanate’s hosting of this meeting stressed the role played by the Sultanate in enhancing cooperation among member countries in civil aviation field, which has a positive effect on the economies of different countries of the world.


As for the issues that will be covered by the meeting, he said that there is a proposal to set up a standard system for monitoring air security in MENA region.


In response to an inquiry about Muscat Air Control Centre, which will be opened today, he said that the Centre is important not only in the Middle East region level, but also at the world level as it has been equipped with systems that are first of their kind in the world. The Centre will enhance the air safety levels in the Sultanate’s skies to an unprecedented level.  — ONA
