Local resort partners with school kids, faculty to celebrate Earth Day

Students and teachers of Wudam al Sahil School celebrated Earth Day at the grounds of Millenium Resort Mussanah on April 22, 2018 joining countries from around the world in demonstrating support for environmental protection.
Comprised of about 35 local students and their teachers and in coordination with the resort’s staff, the group created a unique biosphere in the resort surroundings through tree planting followed by different activities putting to spotlight little things that can be done to protect the environment.
“For Millennium Resort Mussanah, Earth Day is more than just a single day to us. As part of our eco-friendly commitment, our aim is to reduce the carbon footprint and also become leading pioneers in the Sultanate for a sustainable environment. This initiative reflects a philosophy we practise year-round and raising awareness amongst the youth of Oman is a concept driven by our corporate social responsibility to help develop a sustainable future for generations to come” said Mustafa Al Jundi, Director of Sales and Marketing at Millennium Resort Mussanah.
The tree planting activity is an effort to create a tranquil biosphere to combat pollution as well as drive sustainable development amongst Omani youths.
The day was concluded with a ceremonial cake cutting, refreshments and gifts given to all guests who attended.
The tree planting project was inspired by the Earth Day Network’s ‘Trees for the Earth’ reforestation campaign which aims to plant 7.8 billion trees by 2020, one tree for every person on Earth.
Commemorated annually on April 22, Earth Day is an annual event that began in the USA when over 20 million people joined together to spread environmental awareness. The movement has since become a global event, uniting one billion people in Earth Day related activities annually.
