The Royal Oman Police said on Sunday that a citizen tried to rescue his two children – aged six and nine, after they were carried by the waves in the area of Barr al-Jissah. The body of the father and the six-year-old child were recovered by a citizen while the nine-year-old child was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The Royal Oman Police ( ROP) has urged all families not to leave children alone in places near beaches, valleys and not to venture into  waters during high sea  waves and strong currents.

Meanwhile, people have also commented about the lack of lifeguard boats and safety guidelines in and around Yeti and other beach despite the increased number of visitors. There are no warning signs in several place, they said.
