Light munition factory to meet domestic needs

SAMAYIL: Oman Munition Production Company (OMPC) on Wednesday celebrated the official opening of the light munition factory in the Wilayat of Samayil in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah under the auspices of Sayyid Badr bin Saud al Busaidy, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs. The factory is one of the projects aimed at meeting the needs for light munition of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF) and other military and security systems in the Sultanate. Oman Munition Production Company was established in response to the directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, with direct investment by the military and security apparatuses pension funds.


Speaking on the occasion, Sayyid Badr said that the light munition factory which was opened in response to the instructions of His Majesty the Sultan aims at meeting the needs of light munition of SAF and other security and military apparatuses and contribute to the development witnessed by the Sultanate in all fields. It is also one of the promising investment projects as it was established by direct investments from the military and security pension funds.

Mohammed bin Nasser al Rasbi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence and Chairman of OMPC, said: “This opening marks the completion of the facilities of the project and it’s associated systems as per the best practices and technologies in the field of light munition production. “We also announce completion of all the facilities, quality systems and munition testing laboratories which play an important role in ensuring the quality of the products. “The factory is designed as per North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato) standards and can meet the needs of SAF and other security and military services of high quality light munition.”
