Let’s make each others’ dreams come true

We think of resolutions when we think of New Year. So here we are in 2019! You must have received so many New Year greetings that could be stored and used for the whole year.
Interesting thought, don’t you think?
There is so much happiness on the New Year’s Eve that we can afford to distribute it around the year. Why? Because we need it. Oman Observer interviewed several people for the video feature looking at the year that has been – 2018 – and dreams and hopes for 2019.
It was interesting to note that many of our interviewees had a year that was both sweet and sour. There were special moments of joy as well as challenging times. A loss in the family is the hardest. It takes all effort, patience and loads of care to pick oneself up to start to walk again.
For many of our interviewees, health was equally important, something we take for granted especially when we are younger. So there is a call for better lifestyle — whether it is for fitness or state of mind because experts have always been telling us about the impact of food and the company we keep.
Interestingly, on the list was the lookout for more time with the family. It seems we truly understand the value of family members now and that includes close as well as extended family members.
Family units have been evolving throughout the years and each culture has its own qualities. Globalisation might have changed a bit of the outlook, but it could be that the protection system of close-knit families could be what ought to be prescribed for the modern-day stress.
Maybe New Year is a good time to think of the people who made us.
When we look back, there are so many people who have contributed to our growth. That is why it could be a wonderful idea to use 2019 to make others’ dreams come true while practising gratitude.
It was nice to hear a variety of people’s dreams. It is only when you are strong can you dare to dream and hope for one of the biggest gifts of life. Some of the interviewees had even set a time frame, which brought back to the mind the importance of goals.
We often push aside the thought of resolutions because most of us have not fulfilled them. They are forgotten by February. But it has been proven many a times that we need only a little over 20 days to form a habit.
So let’s get into action — that is to find out others’ dreams. If they are not well known to you, even better. That is not to say that we should ignore family and friends, but if they are your friends, they are probably well-looked after.
So in our list of interviewees, there were hopes for better jobs, new projects and growth in career. Stuck in the mind is a young lady who wants to become an accomplished makeup artist. There is something in her eyes, and she has the skill in her hands. One can feel the creative thoughts so much that there is an urge to go back and ask her more questions.
It all leads to what everyone needs — opportunity. Stay away from being an opportunist but stay close to determination because there is nothing that can defeat determination. When there is so much focus, there are plenty of sparkles to attract destiny towards you.
And most importantly, we must believe in ourselves. Let’s put the best foot forward and make each others’ dreams come true. For when others grow, we grow.
