There is so much to learn about the wonderful world of cycling. The fact is, I haven’t had a bike for 20 years and today, I am happy to share with you what to me is a big thing… I just got a bike!

When buying a bike, there are many things that come along with it. Personally, I want to know about clubs, the best ways and paths to cycle and everything that comes with it. Typical of me, I got investigating. And here’s a few of my discoveries.

Women’s bikes are purposely designed to fit a woman’s frame and body shape. The difference with that of men’s bike is that the handlebars are shorter for women and even the seats are different, too. I don’t know about you, but I’ve invested in extra padding!

I also gotten in touch with my friend Laura who’s been cycling for over 30 years. Laura is now nearly 60 and from her stock experiential knowledge backed by some of my research, here’s some advice and cycling guide for you.

Leisure and fitness hybrid or traditional bikes are ideal if you want to focus on improving your fitness or generally enjoying the great outdoors.

They won’t go as fast as a road bike or cope with tough terrain like a mountain bike, but do allow for a variety of terrain. A traditional lady’s bike is best suited for paved roads and typically has a step through frame, making it easy to get on and off.

A hybrid bike usually has more gears and some models come with front suspension for a smoother ride. If you’re looking to ride a little bit faster or farther, or are recovering from injury or illness, an electric hybrid bike is an ideal option offering advantages than a regular bike, while reducing the strain by giving you an electronic boost.

Road bikes are for you if you’re looking to venture further in this field or if you have plans to take part in a race or sport. The larger wheels and narrow tyres are more efficient on tarmac so covering longer distances is quicker and easier.

Mountain bikes are capable of handling a wide variety of terrain and offer an entry point into the exciting world of off road cycling.

Most will feature some sort of suspension to absorb shocks and bumps. Electric mountain bikes are the next big things in off road riding. Discover just how much fun it is to have some turbo boost in your back pocket conserving more of your time and energy means you can conjure that big hill, challenge yourself to ride harder and faster, and get more riding into your session.

Before buying that bike that you want, it is important for you to make a decision. Are you biking for leisure or you’re planning to venture into racing?

Once you lock down the reason, decide on a style of bike that would work for you. This is best done by visiting a bike shop. Once there, try different models.

Remember, the main consideration should be the terrain you want to ride on, the style of riding you want to experience and your body shape.

In the end, it’s down to personal choice and fit, so spend time trying out different bikes until you’re happy. I must thank Laura for helping me out as a beginner. Thanks for her sound advice, I acquired a nice set of wheels!
