Kochi Airport reopening further delayed

Muscat: India's Kochi airport has delayed its reopening by three days to August 29. the airport management informed on its website.


The airport will resume operations on August 29 at 2 pm, instead of the earlier given date of August 26. The airport has been shut down since August 15 after floodwater breached the periphery walls and flooded the runway.


"Most of the airlines and the ground handling agencies have expressed concerns over the ability to mobile manpower as 90 per cent of their employees have been affected by the floods and are out of station. Restaurants and hotels in the airport vicinity  still remain closed and it will be difficult to arrange catering and other logistics related facilities,: the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) said.


Currently, the airlines operating from Muscat to Kochi – Oman Air, Air India, Jet Airways, have transferred their scheduled flights to the Thiruvanthapuram International Airport.


Air India Express has waived all penalties for modification, cancellation, no-show, sector, along with full refund for cancellation.
