A team from the plastic surgery and craniofacial unit in Khoula Hospital recently succeeded in removing a metal stake stuck in a critical area in the skull of 14-year-old boy, who was playing near his home in the time of injury. The surgery is the first in the Sultanate considering the type and degree of injury as the stake went through the skull cavity that contains the eye, positioned only a few millimeters from significant arteries of the head.

The procedure, which took two hours, involved in turning the mental stake loose from any fusions and extracting it under close supervision from the surgical team. The patient was discharged after four days and is in complete health and normal eyesight.
