Muscat: Dominic Kennedy and Gururaj, two new names have emerged on the badminton scene at the Annual Badminton Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club Oman jointly sponsored by Clarion Group of Companies and Al-Jizzi Company.

Both random seeds have emerged into the final of the men’s singles to be played this evening (Saturday). Dominic Kennedy qualified for the pennant clash after registering a brilliant 21-19, 21-17 victory over Faisal NV in the semifinal. Faisal kept Kennedy on his toes but Kennedy held his ground to edge into the final. His challenger for the men’s title, Gururaj earned his place in the final after facing stiff resistance and overcoming Pyarelal in three games 21-11, 15-21, 21-16.

Kennedy is in line to capture a triple crown. Kennedy has already won the Mens-A Singles and the Mens-A Doubles titles. In the final of the Mens-A Singles, Kennedy put in a splendid allround display to outplay Shivadas with a 21-12, 21-12 verdict and in the Mens-A Doubles final, together with partner Ronnie Pereira, staved off stiff resistance and shrugged off the loss of the first game to capture the title, Kennedy’s second, with a fine 20-22, 21-7,9, 21-17 victory.

The tournament will conclude this evening with two finals, the men’s singles & men’s doubles followed by the prize distribution.
