Muscat, SEPT 16 - It was a fun day out for the school children of Muscat International School when they picked up the basics of football at the hands of Marco Degortes, Juventus Academy Area Manager.

Degortes was in Muscat for a four-day clinic at the Muscat International School and it was a session that was thoroughly enjoyed by both children and parents alike.

The Italian, who has a degree in physical education, has been head coach of the Juventus Training Camp in a host of countries in Europe and South America.

Degortes was excited and happy on his first visit to Oman.

“Yeah, it’s my first time in Oman and I’m really happy being here. Seeing the country has been wonderful and I feel really good around here,’’ he added.

Talking a little bit about the Juventus coaching programme, Degortes gave a perspective.

“Basically, what we want to do at Juventus is to create the first worldwide academy. At the core of this is children, we will try to do this in the physical aspect as well,’’ Degortes said.

The Juventus man also elaborated on the age-group that will feature in the programme.

“Actually, the Juventus programme is from 3-17 years, the method as such but the basic football training starts at the age of 5. There is also teaching in terms of technical and tactical aspects,’’ he added.

In terms of the feedback from the parents, Degortes said it was largely positive.

“The Juventus Academy is like a teacher. We teach the basic things, rules and behaviour. We ask them to come here and try,’’ he added.

Looking towards the future, Degortes said he needs to meet with the coaches and formulate some guidelines for the programme. He said is hoping to have a strong relationship,’’ he added.
