By Staff Reporter — MUSCAT:  Dec 21:  From January, each Oman Air passenger will only be allowed to check in a single 30 kg suitcase which should not be more than 158 cm in length. Now passengers can carry 30 kg in more than one luggage. Oman Air said the new rules will help it to reduce excess luggage rates.  Passengers will be charged RO20 for the first 20kg of excess weight, or RO16 if the additional baggage is paid in advance online.

Business and first class passengers will be allowed one extra bag with a maximum weight of 20kg while gold and Silver Sindbad card holders are allowed to carry 30 kg extra baggage. For the card holders in economy class it is 20 kg.  Oman Air’s current pricing for additional baggage will be replaced with an ‘additional piece’ system whereby passengers will be able to pay for additional baggage with a maximum weight of 20kg per piece at check-in.

Oman Air will also

introduce pricing for luggage which includes items such as pets, sporting equipment and anything above 158cm length. To begin with, Oman Air will offer promotional pricing at just RO16, if purchased online in advance for certain destinations.

Pre-purchased items will save up to 20 per cent as opposed to excess baggage purchased at the airport.

There is no change in hand baggage allowance, which remains the same. First and Business Class passengers, two luggage pieces of 14kg each of 115cm (45 inches) in length are allowed

Economy Class passengers can carry one apiece, weighing up to 7kg and a length of not more than 115cm. The airline said pricing details and promotions will be announced later.
