How many people seriously understand the real meaning of charity? Possibly only a few ones are aware of charity. To what extent are people interested in supporting charitable associations and needy families or poor people within society? What is the secret behind volunteering that makes it worth the sacrifice and commitment? Hundreds of questions could be addressed in this regard.

The word charity doesn’t come to the interest of many people in society nowadays. Perhaps, because they are not interested in getting involved in it or they are ignorant of the impact of charity on people’s lives. That’s why some people are unwilling to spare effort or time to fund charities or even support them to accomplish their social missions and duties. I wonder why people don’t give it a try to volunteer so they realise the significance of charity.

Undervaluing the impact of charity on society discourages people from volunteering to give back to the community. Volunteering for a noble cause like charity is always great as it brings self-satisfaction. Sacrificing time and effort for charity is always rewarding as we make a life by what we give and not by what we have.

As a religious and social obligation, charity should be of everyone’s interest, so we all can make a difference in society. Everyone can contribute to the support of charity on his own way, either through financial support or personal time and efforts. Volunteering, for instance, must be a common culture in our life as charity work is very important. It gives people an opportunity to give back to society. When everybody gets involved, we then care for one another.

One might ask that today we observe lots of charitable associations that serve needy families and poor people in society. Accordingly, those parties are having enough volunteers who run charity work whenever and wherever needed. However, I can assure you that it’s the same volunteers who run the show every time, but we are missing this fact. They never give up volunteering and sacrificing their efforts and personal time. For most of them, volunteering is what they love doing. They do with real passion.

I have found that charitable associations and volunteers come across different types of challenges and obstacles every day. A lot of discouraging situations and embarrassing attitudes from others they come through every now and then. However, they never give up. Throughout the past couple of experiences that I had with a group of volunteers and colleagues, I could realise how difficult it is to be a volunteer or to manage a charitable association. I had to observe real challenges and obstacles with society and corporates.

However, the experiences were really thrilling and insightful. Being a volunteer was an opportunity to spare a few moments with the needy families or sick children at hospitals. Sharing their feelings of pain for being admitted at hospital, delight at meeting us and happiness for getting gifts was something really beyond imagination. It was a pleasure for us indeed to share their feelings. For most of the team members, it was the first experience ever, but it won’t be the last. The team comprised volunteers of different nationalities. All were coming to serve a noble cause while sharing smiles and wishes of recovery and good health for the kids.

Remember, what you do for yourself dies with you, but what you do for others and the world remains and is everlasting.
