MUSCAT: Al Turki Enterprises’ famed bowling attack floored a title contender on Friday, handing star-studded Passage to India (PTI) a eight-wicket beating in a Premier Division game at Ministry of Sports grassy ground 1 in Al Amerat.

Bowling first, Al Turki bowlers made early inroads into the strong PTI batting which never recovered from being 5 down for 55 and were soon skittled out for a paltry 101 in 36.5 overs. Zeeshan Siddiqui scored a stylish 44 of 53 balls while skipper Amir Kaleem managed 24 off 50. No other batsman could stand the probing length and guiles of wily Jay Oddedara and Gulam Shaik who claimed 4 and 3 wickets respectively.

Al Turki lost openers Ajay Lalcheta and Twinkle Bhandari early at 47 for 2 but a 55-run fourth wicket partnership between Gulam Shaik (29) and Suraj Kumar (34) led their team to a comfortable victory in the 25th over.

Though PTI has lost its second successive game, the triple league format gives teams plenty of chances to fight back into the long tournament.

The match also saw Oman Cricket reaching another milestone by installing video cameras on the ground.

Commenting on an incident involving a Premier Division team’s wicketkeeper appealing for a hit wicket dismissal, which was recorded on cameras and went viral on social media, a senior OC official said, “We have yet to receive official report on the match and the incident. Once we receive the report, the matter will be referred to the tournament committee and appropriate action taken, if required.”

Brief scores: Passage to India 101 all out in 36.5 overs (Zeeshan Siddiqui 44 – 5x4, 1x6, Amir Kaleem 24 – 2x4. Jay Oddedara 4-18, Gulam Shaik 3-10) lost to Al Turki Enterprises 102 for 2 in 24.3 overs (Suraj Kumar 34 – 8x4, Gulam Shaik 29 – 3x4) by seven wickets.
