By Amal Al Riyami — NIZWA: APRIL 8 - The third handicrafts industry forum for the elderly concluded at Jabrin Fort on Saturday. The forum, held under the theme, ‘The hands of tender’, was organised by Dakhiliyah branch of Omani Association for Elderly Friends.  It was presided over by Sayyid Fahr bin Fatik bin Fahr al Said. In her welcome speech, Aziza bint Majed al Falahi, a member of the social committee in Al Dakhiliyah branch of the Omani Association for Elderly Friends, spoke about the association’s objectives and activities.

She said, “This forum is aimed at reviving handcrafts which had ceased to exist in some wilayats. We want to convey a message to the youth that this industry was the main source of livelihood for many families long time ago. Hundreds of elderly men and women participated in the forum on the opening day. Maather al Atabi, from Jemah School, presented a poem while students from Balarab bin Sultan School presented Alrazha art, a way of expressing their joy and patriotism. Amenah bint al Arqam School provided a play based on the theme why children should obey their parents. Poet Ali al Moqbali presented a poem and a song about the mother.

Later, the patron of the ceremony honoured individuals and institutions who backed the association. He opened and toured the ‘craft industries for the elderly’ exhibition. The craft industries exhibition had around 20 stalls, which also saw participation of a number of civil society organisations and volunteer teams.
