LONDON: Kate, the wife of Prince William, gave birth to a baby boy on Monday, the couple’s third child who is fifth in line to the British throne. The boy, weighing eight pounds and seven ounces (3.8 kg), was born at 11:01 am (10:01 GMT), Kensington Palace announced. Mother and baby are both doing well, the palace said, and William, the Duke of Cambridge, was present for the birth. William was seen smiling as he left St Mary’s Hospital in central London shortly after 4:00 pm, waving to media outlets from around the world assembled outside. He returned half an hour later, having collected from school the couple’s two other children; four-year-old Prince George and Princess Charlotte, aged two. Charlotte gave a wave to the crowd of onlookers and media as the trio entered the hospital, Queen Elizabeth II, William’s father Prince Charles, and his brother Prince Harry were said to be delighted with the news. — AFP
