Investing in real assets essential

Generally, training is teaching by itself. It develops any skills or knowledge related to specific competencies in oneself or others. It has certain goals of improving people’s capabilities and productivity as well as motivating them. For that reason, training is a must as it upgrades the skills of employees throughout their work span.

People in any profession require a sort of training that is relevant to the work they do as a professional development to their skills and abilities. Even if they are talented and competent, employees’ expertise should be updated every now and then. Through training, they can sharpen their competencies, enrich experiences and knowhow.

As well known that training builds morals and experience, it is the right of every employee to have. Usually on-job training empowers people to realise their new competencies and hone their current capabilities. People are the most valuable assets for their employers, thus it is a must to get them trained, so they give back quality performance and outcomes to the business of their organisations.

No matter what the profession is, employees need some kind of training. It refreshes their minds, thoughts and spirits. Undoubtedly, they will look forward for their turns to get trained. Such opportunities will be highly appreciated by employees even if it happens once in a blue moon throughout the year.

Stressing the importance of human development, His Majesty accorded personal attention to developing Omanis in all walks of life. He called upon all government and private bodies to spare special and serious attention to this matter. He said: “As long as society succeeds in raising, developing, qualifying, training, enhancing skills and diversifying the experience of its human resources, success is guaranteed in building a modern state with progress in all aspects of life.”

Today, we see many private and government establishments in the Sultanate very concerned about training and developing its human resources. They accord employees’ development sufficient attention in their annual fiscal plans and budgeting. They get the training plans and strategies prepared, approved and ready to be put into action since the beginning of the year.

It is a good planning indeed to get a certain budget spent to serve the professional needs of employees. If plans and budgets are well worked out, it will be encouraging and rewarding for employees. They will recognise the meaning of them being the valuable assets of their organisation.

However, in some organisations all these plans and strategies will be just put on the shelves; not to be approached and functioned for a reason or another. Either it’s for the sake of cost-cutting policies that are being implemented nowadays, or due to the carelessness of the people in charge of training. Accordingly, employees are deprived from their right to get training opportunity.

As a matter of fact, development of human resources is an investment and not an expense. It is strategic like all other planned changes. Strategic thinkers don’t put the training budget on the list of the discretionary spending. When organisational strategy is discussed, smart thinkers give training director a seat at the table.

Dear bosses, just remember that investing in your people proves they have a future with the organisation. If planning to build a team of loyal, fully engaged and high achievers, hire the right people then invest in their development regularly.

At all times, training is of high significance to people as they need maintenance and upgrade even more than machines. Training is an upgrade while retraining is maintenance.
