International oncology meet today

MUSCAT: The two-day ninth Muscat International Oncology Conference organised by the Royal Hospital, represented by the National Oncology Centre, begins on Wednesday, with a wide participation of 450 participants from the various health institutions in the Sultanate.


Dr Mohammed bin Saif al Hosni, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, sponsors the opening of the conference.


The conference will be attended by 48 speakers from 15 countries including the Sultanate, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, India, USA, Italy, Pakistan, Bangladesh, UK, Albania and others.


The conference includes 7 scientific working sessions and 58 working papers highlighting many topics related to tumors, such as methods of treatment and diagnosis of cancer, chemotherapy, cancer surgery, guided therapy, radiation therapy, nursing care, psychological and palliative care, for cancer patients during treatment.


The conference aims at informing the participants about the latest developments in the field of cancer diagnosis and treatment, exchanging experiences with senior doctors from around the world, raising awareness among doctors and medical groups about how to deal with cancer according to the latest standards, raising awareness of cancer in general and how to diagnose, treat, deal with and prevent it.


On the other hand, the National Oncology Center started today the first workshop for the conference entitled “Economic Financing for Health Care”.


The two other workshops will be on the nursing care of cancer patients, radiotherapy and medical physics.- ONA
