International Council of Dance opens Muscat section

International Dance Day was celebrated by Orbit Training Centre for Performing Arts (Nrityanjali) on April 29 at Al Falaj Hotel.


Saeed Sultan al Busaidy, Director-General of Traditional Arts, Ministry of Heritage and Culture, presided over the celebrations as chief guest. Addressing the audience, he praised the performers for their ‘rich cultural diversity in performances which go to say how the unspoken language of dance can bring the world together as one’.


The audience was enthralled by outstanding performances which included Indian classical and folk performances by Premila Ramesh and her students; Marion Toucas, The Champ Oman, Jazz Dance; Wajira Degambada and students, Sri Lankan Classical and Folk Dance; ballet by Alena Michaelovna and Natella Dadichkiliani; Zumba by Marissa M Pontila and her students from International Karate Academy and an exclusive Armenian solo performance by Anah Sari of Conseil International De La Danse (CID), Unesco, Greece.


Anahit Saribekyan from CID, Unesco based in Athens was the guest of honour. She announced the decision of CID, Unesco to open the Muscat Section of CID.


The cultural programmes were preceded by a workshop on ‘Stretch out and Dance’. Students of Nrityanjali were awarded Level Completion Certificates from CID, Unesco of varying levels, depending on their years of learning.


Areej Cooking Oil presented the mega show; Al Falaj Hotel were the venue partners; Audiotech supported the event with sound and lights. The event was managed by Orbit Event Management.
