MUSCAT: The Ministry of Manpower on Sunday launched the Innovation Award in its first edition under the patronage of Dr Hilal bin Ali al Hinai, Secretary-General of The Research Council (TRC), and in the presence of Dr Muna bint Salim al Jardaniyah, Technological and Vocational Education Under-Secretary, and officials of government and private innovation-support institutions.

The award aims to spread the concept and culture of innovation, stimulate competition amongst students of technological and vocational colleges and ministry employees, attract them to highlight their creations and innovations, encourage them to transform them into a reality that contributes to sustainable development. The award aims to increase innovative ideas and production based on knowledge, to transform it into a project with a tangible value that has added value to the national economy.

Dr Muna in her speech said that the ministry recognises the importance of joining efforts in building national capacities and promoting the culture of innovation.

The areas of the award include industrial, tourism, commercial, technical, environmental, occupational safety, food security, design and social initiatives.

Dr Hilal bin Ali al Hinai said: “The Innovation Award will further develop the innovative environment in the Sultanate and train students and employees in the ministry to take leadership and innovation as a renewed work method.”

The award will give a significant push to students and employees for more achievements, and we hope that this award will be an incentive at the level of other institutions that support innovation. — ONA
