Inmates’ products exhibition opens

By Zainab Al Nasseri — MUSCAT: Dec 24: Central Prison Inmate Products Exhibition was opened at the City Centre Muscat on Sunday under the auspices of Dr Essam bin Ali al Rowas, Deputy Chairman of the Public Authority for Craft Industries (PACI), in the presence of Maj Gen Suleiman bin Mohammed al Harthy, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Administrative and Financial Affairs, senior officers at the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and delegations of GCC correctional institutions participating in the in the 5th GCC Inmate Week.


The exhibition displays collections of inmates’ products like crafts works, art pieces, clothes and textiles, wooden and pottery works like ships. It also includes corners for the National Committee for narcotics Drugs Affairs and the Ministry of Awqaf and religious Affairs.


Themed “Together to Achieve Reform”, the activities of the week will continue until Thursday December 29, aimed at communicating with prison inmates and associating them in the process of building a better future for themselves and the whole society. The week-long programme will include cultural, sports, religious and social activities lined up by the General Directorate for prisons.


Today, an entertaining celebration will take place in the Central Prison headquarter in Samayil, al Dhakhliyah Governorate, to be attended by the GCC delegations and senior officers from ROP and concerned parties. There will be also an accompanied exhibition for central prison inmates. The guest will have the chance to visit agricultural houses and mini reserves inside the prison and get introduced to their products.


During the week, ROP officials will conduct lectures for college students to introduce them to the role of the General Directorate for Prisons and efforts made to reform and rehabilitate prisoners. There will be also religious, cultural, health lectures besides contests for inmates.
