The Directorate General of Passports and Residency of the Royal Oman Police has said that the decision to prevent Indonesian workers from working in the Sultanate came at the request of the competent authorities in that country.


The police responding to questions in the social media that the Sultanate welcomed their return if they were allowed to work here.


There were requests in social media to lift the ban on Indonesian domestic workers as it was bringing more competition to the market. 


Observer had earlier reported that the restrictions on hiring domestic workers from Indonesia will remain.


Indonesia had imposed the ban to protect the interests of those seeking domestic work abroad from exploitation by recruitment agencies back home.


The ban is part of Indonesia’s decision to stop sending domestic workers to 21 countries in the world, including some GCC nations.
