India's Kochi airport shut till Saturday, flights cancelled

Muscat: The Kochi airport in Kerala has suspended all flight operations till Saturday afternoon after an increase in the water level near the airport because of continuous rain and the opening of the gates of the dams. Flights are being diverted to other airports.


Wazim Zaidi, general manager, Jet Airways, Oman, told the Observer that the Kochi flights stands cancelled and passengers will be accommodated in flights to Thirvanthapuram or Mumbai flights.


The airline is planning to use the time slot of the Kochi flights for an additional flight to Thiruvanthapuram, but a decision is pending.


The Observer is awaiting comments from Oman Air on the status of their Kochi operations. The company website has stopped taking bookings to the city till August 19, resuming on Monday, August 20.


Air India too confirmed that it will be try accommodating Kochi-bound passengers on flights to Thiruvanthapuram and other nearest destinations.


The Kochi flight bound scheduled for Thursday will be operated to Thirvanthapuram, the airline official confirmed on Wednesday.
