MUSCAT: The Embassy of India in Muscat will organise the International Day of Yoga with support of Yoga organisations based in Oman on June 21. Last year, the embassy celebrated the second International Day of Yoga on June 21 where, under one roof, more than 3,000 Omani, Indian and other expatriate Yoga enthusiasts, practitioners and beginners performed Yoga. The event will be held at the Oman International Exhibition Centre. There will be a separate enclosure for ladies and children. However, there will be no segregation based on gender and all men and women as well as children are welcome to practice together.

The doors will open at 7.30 pm and the Yoga Session will start at 8 pm and may last for an hour. Every year, June 21 is celebrated as International Day of Yoga (IDY) all over the world. On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly had approved Resolution 69/131, declaring June 21, as “International Day of Yoga”. The resolution was co-sponsored by a record number of 177 countries, including the Sultanate of Oman. Since then the IDY has been celebrated annually by member countries of the UN with great enthusiasm.
