MUSCAT, SEPT 17 - Huawei unveiled its ICT skills Competition for the Middle East on Sunday, an international programme that provides opportunities for students to recognise their IT skills by providing them platform to compete at national and international level.

After completion of all rounds of the competition one group of students will be given an opportunity to travel to China, attend the international competition with teams from other 9 countries and gain insider access to a top global ICT company. Huawei will grant the winners an exclusive chance to meet with the brand’s leadership. They will gain exposure to Huawei’s expertise in telecommunications, enterprise and consumer business.

The future vision (Oman 2020) aims at development of human resources and Omanis’ capabilities to keep up with technical development, manage the changes therein with high efficiency and face the ever-changing domestic and global conditions.

Huawei ICT Skills competition will support this target and benefit universities and students at a great level. Future growth is aimed after developing ICT knowledge and skills in students. National competitiveness will be increased through developing ICT talent in Oman. Upgradation of teaching methods and connectivity with the industrial development will be focused.

Huawei said it started its journey in Oman in 2013, with a small representative office and has grown steadily ever since to a local enterprise with 350 talented employees across the Sultanate.

Huawei has not only been attracting and developing a talented workforce, but also started a CSR programme with the aim of changing the recruitment model from “Hunting to farming” in collaboration with TRA, Omantel and Sultan Qaboos University in order to develop the next generation of ICT talent, enhance knowledge transfer, promote a greater understanding of telecommunications sector, and improve regional building and participation in the digital community.

Through this internship programme every quarter Huawei Oman instead of directly hiring from market, trains around a batch of 25 talented students with hand on experience of the latest tools and technology in the ICT world.
