SALALAH: Defying advisory of not venturing into the sea while it is rough proved costly for the staff members of a leading hotel in Salalah by losing one of their colleagues in an incident of drowning on Saturday evening.

The accident happened when a group of the hotel staff members were having fun at Dahariz beach and some of them including the victim, identified as James, decided to swim in the sea, which was very rough.

“Two of the staff members were taken away by the strong current, which took them far off the beach. One of them was rescued by the passersby and hotel colleagues but James could not be saved. Later his body was found and sent to hospital,” one staff of the hotel said.

A resident of Indian state of Goa, James was a soft spoken and committed employee of the hotel and was liked by everyone for his sincerity and good behaviour.

The hotel authorities have strongly instructed its guests and staff members not to venture into the sea as monsoon impact is still there and the sea is still very rough.

“We are really sorry for the loss even though strong advisory had been displayed at many places on the beach requesting the visitors not to swim in the sea as it is very rough,” said a staff.
