Muscat : The number of hotel establishments in South Sharqiyah Governorate reached 42 in 2017, compared to 33 establishments in 2016, an increase of 27.3 per cent.
The number of hotel rooms increased to 1,194 rooms in 2017 compared to 859 rooms in 2016, an increase of 38 per cent.
With some initial approvals granted for new hotel facilities in the governorate last year, five facilities will add 151 rooms. Two hotel apartments are expected to bring 21 rooms.
A number of resorts, guest houses and camps are expected to add rooms.
A new hotel is expected to open soon and will add 49 rooms as part of the efforts of the Ministry of Tourism to encourage private sector and investment to keep pace with the growth in the number of visitors to the Sultanate's provinces.
