Holy Quran contest winners honoured

MUSCAT: Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, Nasr bin Hamoud al Kindi, Secretary-General of the Royal Court Affairs, honoured the winners of the Sultan Qaboos Holy Quran Competition on Tuesday. They include the winners of the top three places. A total of 19 contenders of the 28th edition of the contest were feted at the ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, His Eminence Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad al Khalili, Sultanate’s Grand Mufti, said those who have been honoured have already been blessed by Allah the Almighty by enabling them to memorise the Holy Quran. The Grand Mufti urged the memorisers of the Holy Quran not to forget the pledge Allah the Almighty had made in His holy book and the message it carries to the whole mankind.


In his speech, Habib bin Mohammed al Riyami, Secretary-General of the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science, said that since inception, His Majesty had taken care of both the qualitative and quantitative aspects of the competition. More than 2,000 people have participated in the competition since its inception. He hailed the excellent standard contenders have shown. Al Riyami lauded the role of organisers — Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science and officials in all 25 centres in governorates. He also lauded the Royal Oman Police (ROP) for giving the prison inmates an opportunity to take part in the competition.

The competition is aimed at making Omani citizens memorise the Holy Quran so they will be able to understand and implement its values in accordance with its principles. The honouring ceremony was attended by under-secretaries, preachers, students and stakeholders. — ONA
