A Michelangelo drawing hidden for centuries will go on display for the first time in Rome, as part of a small exhibition celebrating the Renaissance master. The black-pencil sketch was found during restoration works on the back of a famous drawing dating from around 1530 that depicts the biblical tale of the Sacrifice of Isaac. “It is an extraordinary story,” Italian Culture Minister Dario Franceschini said at a press conference. The artwork, which belongs to the Casa Buonarroti museum in Florence,is to be shown at Rome’s Capitoline Museum from April 22 to May 7,along with another double-sided Michelangelo piece, the Cleopatra. The drawing of the queen from ancient Egypt also features a preparatory drawing on its reverse side, discovered in 1988. — DPA
