MUSCAT, Dec 18 - The current weather pattern will weaken by tomorrow, said the Met Office.

At the same time, it said there is a likelihood of rain and thunderstorms that may exceed 30 mm along with strong winds and hail storms in the next 98 hours in the governorates of Muscat, Al Batinah North and South, Al Sharqiyah and Buraimi.

Oman Meteorology urged people to be vigilant during thunderstorms, and not to cross wadis and to avoid low lying areas. Fishermen have been told not to venture into the sea along the coast of Sea of Oman.

Heavy rains have lashed most of the governorates in the past three days, which has led to the overflowing of wadis.

Liwa recorded a rainfall of 113 mm, Jabal Akhdar (76 mm), Shinas (63 mm) and Izki (47 mm).

According to the national multi-hazard early warning centre, Oman’s atmosphere will continue to be affected by convective clouds over Al Hajar mountains and surrounding areas, which may extend to the coastal areas of Oman Sea, associated with fresh winds, hail and runoffs of some wadis.

The sea state is expected to be moderate along the coastal areas with a maximum wave height of two metres, said the Met Office.

Despite warnings from the authorities, there have been incidents of vehicles getting stranded in the wadis. Jabal Shams is the coolest place with minus two degrees Celsius.
