Muscat, Dec 16 - Most parts of northern Oman, including Muscat, will receive heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours, said the Met Office.
About 40 mm of rainfall is expected. According to Oman Meteorology, the trough of low pressure has not yet reached Oman, but there have been reports of hail mostly in the Wilayat of Daba in the Governorate of Musandam.
There were reports of light drizzle in the other parts of Oman, including Muscat, with authorities such as the PACDA asking people to keep off from flowing wadis. It urged everyone to follow the weather updates sent on official media platforms.
The Muscat Municipality has urged people to call the helpline 111 in case if they encounter any safety issues during rain.
The latest satellites images showed the presence of rain clouds over the Sea of Oman off the coasts of northern, south-east, Muscat and over the coast of Arabian Sea.
There is also a possibility of rain (light to heavy) in these regions, including Musandam, said the Met Office. The National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre predicts low pressure will last until December 18 with expected isolated rain and occasional thundershowers, associated with fresh wind and hail affecting the governorates of Musandam, Muscat, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, North and South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, and North and South Al Sharqiyah.
Cloud development and isolated rain is likely over the governorates of Al Wusta and Dhofar.
The sea state is expected to be moderate-to-rough along the coastal areas of Musandam and Oman Sea with a maximum wave height ranging between two and three metres.
The Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) has advised the public to exercise extreme caution during rain. Avoid crossing wadis or sailing during such conditions and follow the latest weather bulletins, it said.
