Gulf Power Conference and Exhibition 2017 kicks off

MUSCAT: The Gulf Power Conference and Exhibition 2017, organised by the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) and the Namaa Group of Companies in cooperation with the GCC Regional Committee for Electrical Power Systems (GCC CIGRE, was held on Monday at the Grand Millennium Hotel Muscat under the auspices of Mohammed bin Salim al Toobi, Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs.


Khalifa bin Said al Ibri, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic and Development Affairs of the GCC Secretariat-General, said that the GCC countries have taken strong steps in the field of electric and water cooperation, thanks to the directives of GCC leaders through adopting previously approved electrical and water policies and programmes and seeking ways to achieve progress in the electricity sector to meet the growing demand and develop and maintain it in order to accomplish more achievements to serve the march of progress and development in the GCC countries.


Ali bin Said al Hadabi, CEO of Oman Electricity Transmission Company, said that the conference and exhibition represent an important platform for meeting the energy sector experts to discuss the visions that will push this sector to a wider horizon in accordance with the rapid changes witnessed by the world in this field.


Kamil Abdul Samad al Shehabi, Chairman of GCC CIGRE, said the conference is one of the most important conferences in the field of electricity in the region, as it is concerned with the techniques of production, transmission and distribution of electricity.


He added that the committee is concerned with facilitating and encouraging the exchange of technical information and technical expertise among member states, especially in the fields of generating electricity, establishing and operating switching stations and related equipment, establishing, isolating and operating high voltage lines, and the introduction, operation and protection of electrical linking systems.


Philip Adam, Secretary-General of CIGRE “The World Forum for Power Systems”, submitted a presentation on the functions and competences of the forum, which facilitates the exchange of expertise and technical information in the field of electricity. — ONA
