GCC foreign ministers meet in New York

NEW YORK: Foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jordan and Egypt met in New York City on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly on Friday. Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah and the Sultanate Ambassador to the US Hunaina Sultan al Mughairy took part in the meeting hosted by US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo. Pompeo thanked the foreign ministers for their partnership with the United States in the fight against terror. A US State Department spokesperson said;  "Pompeo stressed the importance of defeating IS and other terrorist groups for achieving peace and stability in Syria, Yemen and Iraq. All participants agreed on the need to address regional threats.


The discussions between Pompeo and the foreign ministers will help in establishing a strategic alliance with GCC and its allies to promote prosperity, security and stability in the region. The US Secretary of State looked forward to continuing these discussions in the coming weeks and months, the spokesperson said.
