MUSCAT: The fourth stage of recruitment in the private sector will be announced on Sunday following coordination between the Ministry of Manpower and the Public Authority for Manpower Register (PAMP) in implementation of the Council of Ministers’ decision to employ 25,000 Omani job-seekers. Since the start of the programme, a total of 6,684 jobs have been provided in 461 companies, in addition to 6,000 jobs currently being prepared and will be rolled out shortly. Of the 6,223 nationals who have been employed in the private sector 3,144 are below the General Education Diploma (GED) level, 2,070 holders of GED certificates, 1,009 are holders of university degrees.

The Ministry of Manpower, in cooperation with relevant authorities, continues to provide more job opportunities for Omani job-seekers. Many steps will be taken in the coming days to support the national employment programme and raise Omanisation rate. Presently, priority is attached to finalise the recruitment of 25,000 job-seekers within six months from December 2017 to May 2018 mainly in the sectors of finance, insurance, industry, tourism and logistics. The employment process goes through three levels: the Ministry of Manpower, the employment platforms as well as the direct appointment of job-seekers by employers.

The current and future strategy of Omanisation and regulation of the labour market depends on the government intervention to speed up the implementation of the replacement process (replacing expats by national job-seekers). The Ministry of Manpower held meetings with private companies with a view to providing more jobs for nationals. The ministry invited companies to present their Omanization plans.
