Personal identity is a complex topic that has thousands of books dedicated to it. What are the things that make a person who he is? Four different artistes based in Austria, Iran and Oman will be giving their personal take on the topic through a Project Identity Exhibition held at Stal Gallery on December 6, 2017.

The four artistes — Marjan Habibian, Joachim Hainzl, Maryam Mohammadi, and Javid Ramezani — will present their personal aesthetic perspectives about their interpretation of identity in different cultures with the artistic techniques of painting and photography.

The construction of human identities differs depending on which part of the world a person is located. For these four artistes, who have moved between the cultural codes and geo-graphical areas of the so called “Orient” and “Occident,” one can have multiple identities as a person grows.

They will be demonstrating that external factors including social, cultural, political, and religious conventions and personal experiences contributes to one’s formation of identity. Behind the huge diversity of the presented artistic projects – all of them answer a common question – Who are we all?

The exhibition doors opens on Wednesday at 7:00 pm at Stal Gallery located at Villa 221, Al Inshirah Street (British Council service road), Madinat Qaboos, Muscat, Oman.
