Islamabad: A former Pakistani prime minister who served under ex-military ruler Pervez Musharraf has invested offshore and kept the investments secret contrary to the laws of the country, leaked documents revealed on Monday.
Shaukat Aziz, a former Citibank vice-president, was appointed as Pakistan’s finance minister by Musharraf after the general took over in a military coup in 1999. Aziz became prime minister in 2004 and held the office until November 2007.
In 1999, shortly before he became finance minister, Aziz set up a trust, which was being managed from Bermuda by law firm Appleby, according to documents leaked by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists. — dpa
