Former Observer journalist dies of cardiac arrest

VM Satish Madhavan, acclaimed journalist and former reporter with Oman Observer Daily passed away after a major cardiac arrest in Ajman on Wednesday.


He was 54 years old and was on a visit to his friends in the UAE when he collapsed and rushed to the hospital. Satish, who is better remembered for his uncompromising nature in bringing up the issues of common migrants in his writings had also been instrumental in helping many stranded people away from home during his more than 25-year-old-career.


He had been managing two web portals ‘Expats News’ and ‘Digital Malayali’. He has also authored a book titled “Distressing Encounters”, a repertoire of his writings over two decades which garnered critical acclaim from all corners. He is survived by wife Maya and children Shruthi and Ashok Kumar.
