Fixed phone line subscribers rise 14.5pc in Sept

MUSCAT: The total number of fixed telephone line subscriptions grew by 14.5 per cent at the end of September 2017 compared to December last year. The number of fixed telephone line subscriptions reached 483,854 from 422,518 subscriptions at the end of December 2016, according to the statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).


The total number of mobile phone subscriptions increased by 3.6 per cent to 7,112,605 from 6,866,260 subscriptions at the end of December 2016.


Of the total mobile phone services subscriptions, there were 642,208 post-paid subscriptions and 6,470,397 pre-paid subscriptions in September 2017, the NCSI data showed. The number of active mobile broadband subscriptions reached by 13 per cent at the end of September 2017 to 4,448,886 compared to 3,937,861 subscriptions at the end of December.


The total number of Internet service subscriptions increased by 24.3 per cent to 335,126 in September 2017 compared to 269,549 subscriptions at the end of December 2016.


The number of fixed narrowband Internet subscriptions declined 3.4 per cent to 2,480 during September compared to 2,566 subscriptions at the end of December 2016.


The number of fixed broadband Internet subscriptions grew by 24.6 per cent to 332,646 at the end of September 2017, compared to 266,983 at the end of 2016, according to the NCSI data. — ONA
