By Lakshmi Kothaneth — MUSCAT: Jan. 11 - Fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into the sea in the coast of Musandam, Oman Sea and South Al Sharqiyah because of the likelihood of high waves. According to the weather experts, fresh north-westerly winds are forming in the northern parts of the Sultanate, which will impact Musandam and Oman Sea, resulting in high waves and a dip in temperature. “The sea waves may rise to a height of three to four metres. Musandam might begin to feel the influence on Wednesday night itself; the fresh north-westerly winds will start blowing in both areas by today,” said Nasser Said al Ismaili, weather forecaster at the Met Office, Public Authority for Civil Aviation.
“This will bring down the temperature by two to three degrees,” he added.
The weatherman, however, said the dip in temperature cannot be termed a cold wave. “The air mass will be almost the same as what it is now.”
No rains have been predicted for the next three days. However, there is an indication there “could be rain development after five days” in the northern parts of Oman.
Mainly clear skies will prevail over most of the Sultanate with a chance of late night to early morning low-level clouds over Al Buraimi, Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates and the desert areas of Al Dhahirah Governorate.
Jabal Shams is the coldest place with a maximum temperature at 14 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 7 degrees Celsius. Highest temperature has been recorded in Salalah, Fahud and Haima with a maximum of 29 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, based on the latest weather forecast by Oman Meteorology, National Ferries has cancelled its services during the period between January 12-15.
The services have been cancelled on the Muscat-Khasab, Shina-Dibba-Khasab, Khasab-Lima, Khasab-Qeshm-Bandar Abbas and Khasab-Lima sectors.
