MUSCAT: The prices of fishes dropped significantly in a number of markets across the Sultanate in the second week of Ramadhan due to an increased supply of varied species of fish at the local fish markets and outlets as well as the fish marketing companies. In the fish market of Barka the prices of some fish species have been falling since the first day of Ramadhan. On Monday, a kilo of Sahwa (long tail tuna) was priced at RO 1 down from last week’s price of RO 1.200, a kilo of Jaithar (yellow fin tuna) was sold for RO 2.

Jumaa bin Mohammed al Balushi, Director of Fish Development Department in the Wilayat of Barka said: “The fish supply at the Barka Fish Market is quite sufficient even with the increasing demand during Ramadhan. Beside the fish market the consumers can also opt to shop for fish in the four fish marketing outlets in Barka. In addition, the fish marketing companies send trucks loaded with fishes to the wilayat as part of a joint programme between the ministry of agriculture and fisheries and fish companies.”
