First innovation meet in Sharqiyah varsity calls for papers

calling researchers: Conference brings together creative minds providing opportunity to share experience in areas related to innovation -


IBRA, July 1: The first innovation conference in Al Sharqiyah University in Ibra with the theme ‘Innovation: An Imperative for Progress and Success’ has called for papers from researchers and experts across the Sultanate.


The conference, to be held in December 13 and 14, will bring together the creative minds in the Sultanate and provide them an opportunity to share their experience in areas related to innovation through submitting their research findings and case studies.


The keynote speakers at the conference are Prof Paul Louis Iske from the School of Business and Economics, University Maastricht, Netherlands, and Dr Sylvia Van de Bunt, Co-director of SERVUS, the Servant-Leadership Centre for Research and Education at the VrijeUniversiteit (VU) Amsterdam.


Paul Iske, who focuses on Open Innovation and Business Venturing, founded the ‘Institute of Brilliant Failures’, with the mission to highlight the importance of experimentation to achieve paradigm shifts and breakthrough innovation.


Paul acts as an independent consultant on Knowledge-conscious Management and supports organisations in the development and implementation of programmes focusing on leveraging knowledge as a strategic production factor. Furthermore, he acts as a board-room consultant on issues related to innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.


Bunt-Kokhuis has an international career in business and academia, and has been serving as a management consultant for various international firms and NGO’s. She has published extensively on cross cultural education, servant-leadership and talent diversity. She was member of the Supervisory Board of amongst others Compu’Train and Kennisnet.


She was President of NGVO, the Dutch Speaking Society for Comparative Education, the Flemish/Dutch Member Society of the World Council of Comparative Education Societies, for more than a decade. She is member of the Advisory Board of the Access to Medicine Index (www.accesstomedicineindex.org) and chairperson of the Advisory Board of Nova Academy Haarlem.


The conference will be a perfect platform to share and disseminate research findings, knowledge and experience of academics and practitioners where innovation is the basis of their enquiry.


The last date for submission of full papers to be presented is August 31, 2017 and by September 20 the notification of acceptance would be sent to researchers and scholars.


The final papers have to be submitted by October 15 and registrations for the conference will open on October 25.

The conference will be held at Al Sharqiyah University’s state-of-the-art campus in Ibra. Ibra is the second largest city in the Governorate of Al Sharqiyah in the Sultanate. Located about 150 km from Muscat, Ibra has a population estimated at 55,000 people. It is one of the oldest cities in the Sultanate and was once a centre of trade, religion, education and art.


Al Sharqiyah University is a private institution of higher education. The university started its operations in the fall of 2010, with students in three colleges, namely, Business Administration, Engineering and Applied Sciences. The university has witnessed continuing increases in its student population that currently exceeds over 2,700 students.


The College of Business Administration (the organiser of the conference) is the largest college at the University in terms of student numbers and academic staff. It has six departments.


These are Management, Accounting and Finance, Management Information Systems, Records and Archives, Team Entrepreneurship and Arts and Humanity.
