The Committee for Sighting Shawwal Crescent for year 1438 AH held a meeting on Saturday under the chairmanship of Shaikh Abdullah bin Mohammed al Salmi, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, to receive reports about the sighting of Shawwal crescent.

As per the astronomical reports, the moon descended at 7:15 pm, 18 minutes after sunset when the height of the crescent was three degrees. Consequently, it was impossible to see the moon on Saturday, and therefore the committee did not receive any confirmation regarding the sighting of Shawwal crescent.

The committee concluded that today (Sunday) will be the 30th day of Ramadhan, 1438 AH and tomorrow (Monday) will be the first day of Shawwal.

Meanwhile, His Majesty the Sultan has received cables of greetings from Sayyid Badr bin Saud al Busaidy, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs, Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council, Shaikh Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura, and Lt Gen Hassan bin Mohsin al Shraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs, on the occasion of Eid al Fitr.

Marking the arrival of His Majesty in the Wilayat of Suhar and the blessed occasion of Eid al Fitr, residents of Suhar will organise folk celebrations to express their allegiance and loyalty to His Majesty. The Wilayat of Suhar has geared up to mark these two auspicious occasions and the celebrations will begin on Tuesday.

Dr Mohammed bin Ibrahim al Zedjali, representative of Suhar at Majlis Ash’shura, said that the celebrations will include a folk festival to be held in front of the historic Suhar Castle on Tuesday evening.

Other events include a marine festival which will be held at Al Afifa area on the third day of Eid al Fitr.
