MUSCAT: Said bin Abdullah al Mantheri, CEO of Oman Broadband Company, said that this year, Muscat will be covered by 70 per cent of high-speed optical fibers. In a statement to ONA, he added that the coverage in the strategic plan is 85 per cent until the end of 2020. The work in Muscat is proceeding in full swing, thanks to the good performance of the company, as we will reach the required ratio before the specified time, noting to the 30 per cent of coverage for outside Muscat Governorate.

He explained that the company cooperates with the electricity, water and wastewater companies to utilise their projects in setting up fiber optic service as the company targets 30 per cent outside Muscat, looking forward to provide the service for Al Saada area in Salalah by the end of October.

He said that the fiber optic service provided by the company so far in Muscat serves more than 200,000 housing units, while it will serve 100,000 to 150,000 units outside Muscat.

As for the Wilayat of Duqm, Al Mantheri said that there is an agreement with the Special Economic Zone Authority of Duqm to provide the new buildings, facilities and factories with fiber optic service, as some operators have already started to provide the service.  — ONA
