Fatma claims singles crown in Tunisia

Muscat: Oman’s Fatma al Nabhani clinched the singles crown in the $15,000 ITF Pro Circuit Hammamet Open tournament in Tunisia on Sunday. Fatma beat Bulgarian top seed Isabella Shinikova 6-3, 6-1 in straight sets in one hour and 15 minutes. Fatma had to stave off the threat posed by Shinikova in both the sets and emerge the winner. Earlier, in the semifinal, Fatma had to fight hard before registering a 6-2, 6-4 victory over French third seed Marine Partaud. In the quarterfinals, Fatma defeated her doubles partner and German sixth seed Katharina Hering 6-1, 6-4. Fatma lost in the doubles section in the semifinals when she and her partner Katharina were handed a 6-3, 6-3 defeat by unseeded Lea Boskovic of Croatia and Yasmine Mansouri of France.
