MUSCAT, JAN 19 - Shopping, entertainment and showcase of traditions… visitors to the Muscat Festival were spoilt for choice. Another addition to the list: music from different governorates.
Musicians from different governorates had the visitors entertained at Naseem Garden, one of the festival venues.
The first concert was by Omani artiste Salim Qutan, who has a huge fan-following across the GCC.
Audience cheered to some of his songs, including ‘Qaswa Anadak’, folk song ‘Ya Zain Seli’ and ‘Tzho Al Ghubaira.’ Each time he sang, the crowds roared, ‘once more, once more.’
Salim has been participating in the Muscat Festival since 2016.
“I began my music career in 2010, thanks to Said Keshoub, who first discovered my talent and helped me release my first album,” he said.
“These festivals are a boon to Omani artistes and a great motivation. I will be releasing a song titled ‘Azabni al-Sahr’’, he said.
Omani artiste Nesma sang ‘Dari Amman — Khalitni Baham — Wink Habibi’, romantic numbers and other songs that have fans across the Pan-Arab region.
“I have been singing from my school days. My music teacher asked me to take part in a musical operetta in celebration of Education Day in Muscat governorate,” said Nesma.
She has participated in national operas and concerts, besides the Omani Song Festival. She won the third place in the Youth Star Competition.
She has also participated in the Muscat Festival and the Autumn Festival of Salalah tourism.
Al-Wafaa Folklore Ensemble from Nakhl presented artistic and musical pieces. “This is the second time we are participating in the Muscat Festival. We have also participated in Salalah Tourism Festival and national holiday celebrations,” said Khalid al Hadrami, deputy head of the band.
Artistes from other countries participated in the music festival. UAE’s band of 32 artistes presented some folk arts with traditional objects such as swords, daggers and drums such as Rahmani and Alkasir.
